Loss changes us. It reshapes our reality, rewires our perception, and lingers in ways we don’t always anticipate. The original graphic that accompanies this blog, along with its content, was created shortly after a significant loss. That was over six months ago. In the months that followed, I moved through solitude, allowing the weight of it to settle before I found myself creating again. My artistic direction didn’t shift immediately, but in time, grief gave way to change. Through it all, I was reminded that my need—and my ability—to create through both graphics and writing was one of the few things keeping me sane.
But loss didn’t just change how I created—it deepened my awareness of the signs I already understood. As someone who teaches about energy and intuition, I’ve long known that messages can come through in subtle ways. But in the quiet that followed my loss, they became more frequent, more insistent. A familiar tingle in my bones signaled a presence I recognized. Songs I never downloaded found their way onto my playlist at just the right moments. Signs appeared again and again, drawing my attention in a way I couldn’t ignore.
Spirit communication is deeply personal and intuitive. The signs are always there—it’s whether we are in a space to notice them that changes. They weave themselves into our lives, sometimes as gentle reminders, sometimes as undeniable calls to attention. Whether they come from a loved one who has passed, spirit guides, or the universe itself, these messages remind us that connection doesn’t end with physical presence. Trusting in their meaning, leaning into your intuition, and recognizing their patterns allows for a deeper understanding of the unseen world.
Recognizing Spirit Messages
Spirit signs come in many forms, often appearing when we need guidance, comfort, or affirmation. These messages are personal, so their meanings can vary, but below are some of the most common signs from the other side:
- Dragonflies: These ethereal creatures symbolize transformation, adaptability, and the presence of spirit. When they appear in an unexpected place, they can indicate that change is unfolding in your favor or that a loved one is reminding you of their presence.
- Feathers: Finding a feather in an unusual spot is often a sign of protection, reassurance, or divine presence. Many believe white feathers, in particular, are a symbol of angels or guides watching over them.
- Butterflies: A timeless symbol of the soul, butterflies often appear during times of transition or healing. They serve as gentle reminders that our connections to loved ones never truly fade.
- Music: Have you ever had a song come on at the exact right moment, delivering lyrics that seem meant just for you? Music is a powerful medium for spirit communication, carrying messages through melodies, words, or even the emotions they stir.
- Dreams: The veil between worlds is thinnest when we sleep, making dreams a potent channel for spirit messages. If a loved one appears vividly in a dream or a recurring symbol stands out, pay attention—there may be guidance or closure embedded in the vision.
- Rainbows: A symbol of hope, renewal, and connection, rainbows often appear after periods of deep emotional upheaval. Seeing one at just the right moment can serve as a cosmic affirmation that you are not alone.
- Personal Items: Have you ever found a meaningful object—jewelry, a trinket, or even a specific scent—appear or shift unexpectedly? These small but powerful moments can be a sign that a spirit is near, making their presence known.
- Birds: Many cultures believe that birds are messengers from the spirit world. Whether it’s a cardinal appearing in a time of grief or a bird behaving unusually around you, these moments often hold deeper meaning.

Trusting Your Intuition
One of the most important aspects of spirit communication is trust. If a sign resonates with you—if it sparks a deep emotion or an undeniable gut reaction—trust that it’s meant for you. These messages are personal, shaped by your experiences, memories, and the connections that remain beyond the physical world.
I know this because I have lived it. When I created this graphic and its accompanying content, I was in the depths of grief, trying to navigate a reality forever changed. In that space of loss, I turned to what I have always known—creation. Writing, designing, and making sense of the unseen became a way to fill the emptiness, to bring shape to emotions too vast to hold alone.
But grief doesn’t just take; it also transforms. It shifts our awareness, making space for signs we might have once overlooked. The spirits we lose don’t leave us; they simply find new ways to reach us. And when we are ready, we learn to listen.
If this resonates with you, pay attention to the world around you. Spirit speaks in whispers, in subtle nudges, in the quiet but powerful moments that remind us we are never truly alone.
